Virtual Actuarial Club Officer Elections 2021

It is time for one of the most anticipated events of the year - Annual Club Officer Elections! This year’s elections will be held virtually due to the guidelines surrounding COVID-19, and to give more members the chance to vote on the future leadership of the club! Virtual elections will still provide you with the same opportunity to run for a position, share your ideas, and make a difference in the Actuarial Science community here at UW- Madison!

Election eligibility and requirements

If Aaron is only running for VP Communication, then he should only submit the speech video for VP Communication.

Speech Submissions

  • All speeches must be submitted to Please email speech videos as an attachment or share the link to a cloud/ google drive. Reach out to Aaron ( if you have any difficulties with submissions.

  • Videos should adhere to the time-limit (1.5 min for President, 1 min for VP). Candidates may go over a few seconds but not too much more. Please ensure decent video quality.

  • Speech deadlines are:

    • Wednesday, April 14th - 11:59 PM CST for the President position

    • Sunday, April 18th- 11:59 PM CST for Vice President positions

  • In the event of a runoff for a certain position (read rules below), we will open up another vote between the top two candidates for the position(s) in which a majority of the vote was not obtained by a single candidate. The runoff voting will take place:

    • Saturday, April 17th from 12:00 PM - 11:59 PM CST for the President position

    • Wednesday, April 21st from 12:00 PM - 11:59 PM CST for Vice President positions

Election Process

  • Voting for the President position will be Thursday, April 15th 12:00 PM CST to Friday, April 16th 11:59 PM CST

  • Voting for the VP positions will be Monday, April 19th 12:00 PM CST to Tuesday, April 20th 11:59 PM CST

  • Voting will take place through google forms which will be shared via the newsletter right before voting starts.

Each voter will select their top two choices for each position - a first choice and a second choice

  • The first choice selection will go into an initial vote. If any candidate receives a majority (more than 50% votes) of the total first-choice votes, they win that position

  • If no candidate reaches a majority in the first-choice votes, all but the top two candidates will be eliminated, and we will look at the second choice votes from the candidates who were eliminated in an adjusted vote.

In this example, no candidate won an initial majority vote.  As a result, the last place candidate Goldie Gopher was eliminated, and the second choice of the voters (whose first choice was Goldie Gopher) came into play. The example voter, for instance, had their vote (second choice) count towards Bucky Badger in the adjusted runoff vote. The idea is that we can get the results of a runoff without unnecessarily enforcing voters to vote a second time.

  • If however, no candidate receives a majority even after the adjusted votes, we will have a runoff election between the top two first-choice candidates (see times above).
